Bankroll Management On Poker Room School

07 Jun, 2009

bankroll imageNew players often ask me, how would I suggest they build a solid bankroll on CDPoker?

Although the answer depends on several individual parameters like game preference, session length and general aspirations, I can provide some important guide lines which are adequate for all.

Since all new players start with $50 and are subjected to some limitations before allowed to play higher games, I summarize the guidelines in the below points:

  • For total beginners I recommend playing the lowest possible limit cash game and not the play money games, the reason behind it is that “play money” games usually are not played anything like “real” poker games and are effectively closer to bingo then poker. Playing the lowest limit
game will not damage your $50 bankroll while give you a true feeling of the game.
  • When you fell you are ready to move up to the next level play the $0.1 $0.2 limit game till you fell total control over the game, then move up to $0.25 $0.50 limit

  • Gradually move up in the fixed limit game but keep in mind to have at least 1000 big blinds in your bankroll when you move to the next level, that is approximately 10 buy ins to spare should you encounter a bad streak.

  • When you reach $2 $4 limit and feel you are ready to move on play some low buy in Sit’n’go tournaments to start practice your No Limit game, this will let you feel the difference between NL (no limit) and FL (fixed limit)

  • Start by playing $0.25 $0.5 NL games when you buy in for the minimum, when you feel more comfortable playing with bigger stacks start to buy in for the maximum.

  • From this point on you can move up in stakes either to limit or no limit game but always keep in mind the 1000 big blind rule! Moving up too quickly with insufficient bankroll can get you broke!

  • Once you choose your game type try to focus on it alone so you can reach maximum results

I hope you find these guidelines useful.

Good luck at the tables,
Dan
